Another bit of personal relaxation fluff. I decided I needed to paint more from life, so I painted a sheep skull I keep lying around, then decided it needed a little adornment. :meow:

Like my last submission, this was painted of an evening, in one go, because holing up in one's man-cave and chugging scrumpy cider whilst painting body parts is so much cooler than clubbing.

Dramatic! Nice glow in the background and the skull is beautiful.

Thanks, the skull's probably the best part because I painted it from life, unlike the rest of the image. =p

Do you find it helps painting in one go and then moving on to something else?

Looks good, nice and shadowy.

It certainly makes a painting very strong and unified, but tine constraints mean that one can't paint anything too polished in one go, so it's mainly for quicker things.

I'm sure you can, all it takes is practice and a decent reference. Skulls are very difficult to get right from imagination or memory. =p

Well I have a collection of my own skulls and my dad collect like 'fake' human skulls. *he's a stoner who loves heavy metal music and anything that looks scary cool* LOL so I have plenty of refs. My problem is always the sizing. and that goes for just about anything, like I will have a decent looking head but the arms or legs or body seem to be either too big or too small. :(

Measuring proportions is important, which is why it's good to start any drawing with a rough 'skeleton' of the whole thing. :)

lol thanks. ^___^ and I just recently started to sketch things before I draw out the hard lines. :D like starting with a circle or block base. So far, the first 2 draws I have finished with that start have turned out a LOT better then most.

Yea, it really helps because if proportions are off it's easy to change them when everything is still only lightly sketched-in.
