Frontline Thoughts 4 by CrimsonMagpie Frontline Thoughts 4 by CrimsonMagpie
got to cut bak n e way we can iv had to stop usin condoms even

The idea of the Frontline Thoughts series is that it's hypothetical (from 2012) interviews with students telling how the rise in tuition fees has affected them. I thought that since political cartoonists will be asked to satarise just about anything, being able to put aside personal bias and poke fun at one's own demographic is an important skill.

Being the cynic that I am, I had a lot of fun taking the piss out of students, especially as they need so little exaggeration.

Every single person in my class saw themselves or someone they knew in this series somewhere.

You know, somehow, you have managed to make the text work with the piece... like I can just imagine the dude saying that in that sort of (chavvy) way, if that makes sense?

This is pretty awesome. I like the shading and the way you've captured and portrayed the features and proportions... though it doesn't feel that human. I guess that could reflect something about the situation as well, but... yeah.

I've looked at your other pieces and read through each one as well. You've targeted one (possibly large) part of the population, I feel, but it would be interesting to see you target the other half, especially with your style of art too.

Thanks, one of the things I thought about when the subject matter came to me was to do the text like many people type it. I thought writing it like that would draw attention to how stupid text speak is. :P

Yes, the inhumanity of the depiction could be indicative of my feelings toward chavs.... To be honest, I actually found it a lot easier to come up with cartoons poking fun at the students than at the politicians on the other side of this issue. I'm planning on making more cartoons like this poking fun at all sorts of demographics though. c:

That's quite interesting!

Yes, I get what you mean. I think it really makes it more focused, in a sense.

That would be awesome! I am looking forward to that. I do read and look at every one, even though I don't comment and stuff. >.>

That's good to know; I'm never sure whether what I find interesting is actually interesting to other people. :P

Well, I've recently been contacted by a regional Brooklyn newspaper, so you might see cartoons from me sooner than I was expecting!

You have to find the right people for that, I guess.

As a stepping stone, and for helping to get my work noticed. It's a local paper, but the locality is Brooklyn.
