Another one-nighter, painted in one sitting before bed. The sketch for this was completed in time for the project hand-in, and painted up afterwards for the New Designers show in London. I was pretty tired by the time I painted this, which is why it's s hack job.
Anyhoo, this is an English Redcoat rescuing Lady Hartenford from her French captors. I wanted her to look bedraggled and traumatised, as if her captors had treated her as as common prisoner instead of a royal ransom prisoner.
The placement of the porthole is entirely deliberate, as I originally wanted an almost celestial mood to the piece. Maybe I'll redux it one day....
You know, I don't usually like paintings that're brown and brown alone, but I quite like this one. You've got a good lighting thingy going on there, and it's very well-executed (even if I can't quite figure out what's going on with porthole dude's chest ).
Thanks, it's cool that you like this even though it's so quickly and roughly painted. The figure in front of the porthole is a princes being rescued, and her chest is just a mess of paint, don't look at it.
