Thousand Yard Stare by CrimsonMagpie Thousand Yard Stare by CrimsonMagpie
Another from last summer, relaxing after graduating by self-indulging with a mooncalf. :meow:

Inspired, rather obviously, by the Vietnam War... I have a huge book of war photographs that finally came in useful for research. Some parts of the painting are a bit of a mess, since it wasn't well planned, and some of the more awesome people amongst you might notice the easter egg I hid away, much to my girlfriend's annoyance (the painting was her birthday present). ;)

Why thank-you, that means a lot! :meow: It's interesting that you like my sketches, since I don't regard myself as a good sketch artist; I simply can't make quick drawings look pretty! =p

I have some more mooncalf works in the pipeline, so stay tuned. :happybounce:

Just kidding, great job, I love your race and war related artwork. I also found da Easter egg. I'm more of a fan of Rarity. XD

I just can agree with the other comments, love the emotion and the drawing.

I guess I've found the easter egg.
It is the mark of a certain purple studend, isn't it? ;D

This is just beyond a surreal combination. Bizarrely lifelife and super emotional but...it's completely impossible to be real. Very very well done. I can't find the easter egg though >_<

wow, you managed to express human emotion perfectly into something that's well...not human.
love the painting as well, you managed to show the wet effect the rain had perfectly.

nice pink pin, btw.

Awesome sauce, and as everyone else has noticed its interesting to see you pant a male mooncalf! :P. The subtle Vietnam suggestion in the background is a nice touch too.

Indeed, I thought it about time I give a male a try... I was a little afraid it'd look the same as a female. =p I had a trawl through the Vietnam section of my war photos book for this, a little self-indulgence. c:

Ah cool, it definitely encapsulates the Vietnam atmosphere very well. Have you noticed you inadvertently made the mooncalf look like the actor Adrien Brody? [link]

Very nice work, liking how you capture the tired and worn out look in the character as well as the way you do water.

Weird isn't it how sometimes when you don't put in loads of effort you get something good out of it?

Yeah, it happens to me often, and when I put a lot of effort in it tends to backfire. :p
